About a month ago, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Much to my surprise, when I tested it with a volt meter, it still had a charge. As a result, I decided to use it to power my mouse.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A month later, I’m happy to report the battery is still holding a charge and powering my mouse.
I know this is the kind of content that keeps you coming back to oppo.

Why the hell hasn’t it all leaked out? Maybe it wanted to wait until you put it inside something valuable?

Pretty sure that battery expiration date was supposed to read 2024 and is only a year old.

It was with 3 other batteries, they had all leaked out. Not sure why this one was unscathed .

Nah, it was in a holder with 3 others that all had the same date and had all leaked out acid.

A friend of my dad used to work for Duracell. This was back in the ‘90s. I seem to recall him talking about some of the advances they were making in the design of the internal sheaths in the batteries - the impression I got was that Duracell in his mind had an edge over the competition in stability.
Even a 1 in 4 survival rate for ~17 years after manufacture (assuming two year shelf) is phenomenal. Maybe he was right.

I was quite impressed that one still worked. I also thought batteries had 5 year shelf lives, which would make this example ~20 years old.

I think it might have been that they were making a thicker seamless cardboard sheath that works as the matrix or insulator
for stuff and that something something proprietary something maybe stabilization
. This would have been in ‘98 or something, so you’ll forgive minimal detail remembered from when I was 12. Had more to do with the construction and materials
than the chemistry as such, I think.

I think the battery powering my mouse downstairs on my Home Theatre PC is from about 9 years ago and was one my brother bought in China while working there for a year. It came back in some electronic or other and he stopped using that so took the batteries out. I found it 2 days ago along with many others of the same or older vintage, plopped it into my mouse and, so far, it’s been going strong!
